
Dr. Daniel M. Anderson is a highly accomplished board-certified ophthalmologist with over fourteen years of experience, currently serving as a primary surgeon at Berkeley Eye Center in The Woodlands. Specializing in cataract surgery and various refractive procedures, Dr. Anderson is proficient in advanced techniques, including EVO ICL, LASIK, PRK, DMEK, DSAEK, PKP, DALK, and complex anterior segment surgeries such as IOL exchange and iris suturing.
Dr. Anderson’s academic journey began at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, where he graduated as one of the eight Distinguished Graduates to receive Superintendent’s Recognition. He obtained his medical degree from Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, LA, followed by an Internal Medicine Internship at Ochsner Medical Center, also in New Orleans. Returning to active duty as a Flight Surgeon, Dr. Anderson gained invaluable operational experience caring for pilots and their families, before completing his ophthalmology residency at SAUSHEC, San Antonio, TX. He is a third-generation ophthalmologist, following in the footsteps of his father, uncle, and grandfather, and completed a fellowship in cornea, refractive, and anterior segment surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, where he trained with world renowned surgeons and mentors.
During his distinguished Air Force career, Dr. Anderson took on faculty roles, teaching Air Force, Army, and UTSA ophthalmology residents and introducing advanced cataract surgery techniques. He deployed to Afghanistan to manage complex ocular trauma and was a critical member of the head, neck, and face trauma team. Later serving as Chief of Ophthalmology and Refractive Surgery at Keesler AFB, MS, he was responsible for over 1200 refractive cases each year and established a refractive surgery rotation, facilitating refractive and cataract surgery training opportunities for Tulane and New York Ophthalmology residents. He was the only surgeon performing DMEK in the region and was pivotal in introducing corneal cross-linking to the Mississippi gulf coast.
Lieutenant Colonel Anderson continues his service with the Air National Guard as a Flight Surgeon, having earned numerous military accolades, including the Air Medal and Commendation Medal, as well as multiple Expeditionary and Humanitarian medals. His humanitarian work spans missions to Mexico, the Philippines, Panama, and Easter Island, where he became the first Air Force Ophthalmologist to partner with Chilean Air Force and civilian ophthalmologists to provide care to the Rapa Nui. He was recently selected for an upcoming mission in Northern Africa.
Dr. Anderson remains at the forefront of ophthalmology advancements by embracing new technology to ensure exceptional patient outcomes. An active educator, he contributes to national ophthalmology meetings and serves as a mentor to residents and practicing ophthalmologists. Committed to furthering the field, he has published in peer reviewed journals and won multiple research and presentation awards. He is an active editor for Eyewiki, the American Academy of Ophthalmology online educational resource and has held this appointment for over five years.
True to his Idaho roots, Dr. Anderson enjoys the outdoors with his family, particularly hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, and skiing. He is fortunate to have the unwavering support of his wife, a Louisiana native, and three wonderful daughters. He actively engages in his local church and community in The Woodlands.
