Originally from southern California, Dr. Booy received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the Program in Liberal Medical Education at Brown University. After graduation, he completed his transitional internship year at Carney Hospital in Boston before returning to Brown to complete his residency in ophthalmology at Rhode Island Hospital and the Providence VA Medical Center. Following residency, he completed a clinical fellowship in glaucoma at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Prior to joining Berkeley Eye Center, Dr. Booy was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at Brown University. In addition to providing patient care in his glaucoma practice, he also served as the Director of Medical Student Education for the Brown University Department of Ophthalmology and as an instructor in ophthalmology for the Johnson and Wales University Physician Assistant Program. He provided volunteer eye care to the uninsured communities of Rhode Island at Clínica Esperanza. He was awarded the Brown University Department of Ophthalmology Teaching Excellence Award in 2023 in recognition of his dedication to the education of ophthalmology residents and medical students.
Dr. Booy is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Glaucoma
Society.
In his free time, Dr. Booy enjoys playing tennis with his wife, jogging, and reading historical
nonfiction.
