Jorge E. Garrett, O.D., is an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist and specializes in cataract and refractive surgery management. He has more than 21 years of diverse experience in treatment of ocular diseases as well as extensive experience in the fitting of specialty contact lenses. He is proficient in utilizing innovative diagnostic equipment to analyze candidacy for laser vision correction, cataract surgery, scleral and hybrid lenses used in the cases of irregular corneas from trauma, genetics or post corneal surgeries.
After graduating from high school in Clear Lake, Texas, Dr. Garrett attended Texas A&M University in College Station where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science. He studied aerospace engineering his first year and if not for his love of medicine, would have continued in the engineering field. He completed his optometric education at the University of Houston, where he earned his Doctorate of Optometry. He was honored with multiple letters of clinical excellence in patient care and completed internships specializing in the fields of ocular pathology and laser vision correction. His clinical grand rounds poster presentation was presented to the American Academy of Optometry in 1999.
During his time at various clinics, he has served as an adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Houston College Of Optometry dedicating his time to training optometry externs. He has also been a clinical investigator for multiple FDA clinical trials for multifocal lens implants and ophthalmic medications. He has complete fluency in the Spanish language.
Dr. Garrett enjoys spending time in the outdoors hunting, fishing and boating. He enjoys traveling to tropical destinations and enjoys the beach, music, grilling and deep sea fishing. He is also a sports fanatic of the Aggies, Rockets, Astros and especially the Dallas Cowboys!
