Dr. Fortuna Abebe is a longtime Houstonian, with her roots in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Dr. Abebe graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Health, and later earned her Doctor of Optometry from the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio, Texas.
During optometry school, Dr. Abebe trained at the UIW Eye Institute in San Antonio, Texas; the Bond Wroten Eye Clinic in Hammond, Louisiana; and at Lifetime Eyecare in Houston, Texas. She also joined the Gold Key International Honor Society and the National Optometric Association, which hosts annual vision screening for underserved communities. She is an active member of both institutions.
In July 2022, Dr. Abebe completed her residency at Georgia Eye Partners in Atlanta, Georgia. The residency program focused on ocular disease and refractive surgery. Her training also concentrated on specialty contact lens fitting for patients with anterior segment conditions such as keratoconus, cornea transplant, irregular astigmatism, and severe dry eye.
In her free time, Dr. Abebe enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying new food cuisines, and traveling.
