Born and raised in Midland, Texas, Frank J. Ruda, M.D. endeavored to follow in his fathers footsteps and pursue a career in ophthalmology from a young age. He received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and genetics from Texas A&M University in College Station and went on to graduate from Texas Tech University School of Medicine. Dr. Ruda then served as a Herbert E. Kaufman Research Fellow at Louisiana State University before completing his internship and ophthalmology residency at the LSU-Oschner Clinic in New Orleans. He concluded his formal training with a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the West Virginia University Eye Institute in Morgantown, WV.
His clinical interests include the medical and surgical management of vitreoretinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, complex retinal detachments, macular holes/puckers, retinal vein occlusion, as well as ocular trauma.
Dr. Ruda has written several peer reviewed journal publications, and has presented research on various retinal diseases and treatments at national ophthalmology meetings. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists, and been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2023, and a Houstonia Magazine Top Doctor since 2024.
He is proficient in Spanish.
