Dr. Maitri Mehta, M.D. is a member of Berkeley Eye Center’s comprehensive ophthalmology team at our Memorial and Katy locations, specializing in cataract and refractive surgery as well as comprehensive eye care for patients with cataract, glaucoma, and diabetes.
Originally from northeastern Pennsylvania, Dr. Mehta completed her Bachelor’s of Science degree from the Pennsylvania State University, as part of the accelerated premedical-medical program. During this time, she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society based on her academic performance in both the sciences and liberal arts. She studied medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was selected to join the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. She also served as chapter president of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association, serving the AAPI communities of Philadelphia through health screenings and educational programs. Working with the Retina department at Wills Eye Hospital, she also published multiple research articles for peer-reviewed journals such as Ophthalmology, Retina, and American Journal of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Mehta went on to complete her residency training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She was elected Chief Resident during her final year of residency, during which time she served as a leader and advocate for her fellow trainees as well as a mentor to junior residents. Following residency, Dr. Mehta traveled to Gujarat, India, to provide free cataract surgery to patients in underserved rural areas at the Drashti Netralaya Ophthalmic Mission Trust Hospital and Gurukul Hospital.
Dr. Mehta is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Texas Medical Association, and American Medical Association. She is fluent in Gujarati, and her hobbies include cooking, baking, fitness, and travel.
