Matthew Yang, M.D., is a native Houston ophthalmologist who offers services in the Pearland, Clear Lake, and Lake Jackson locations. He maintains professional interests in cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, refractive surgery, dry eye, diabetes, and aerospace medicine.
Following graduation at the top of his class at Bellaire High School, Dr. Yang attended the University of Texas at Dallas where he graduated magna cum laude with Honors in Biology and minor in Music Performance. He then completed medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) where he was awarded several Presidential Scholarships.
He then continued his residency training at UTMB in ophthalmology where he was commended for his exceptional service expanding ophthalmic services at the multidisciplinary St. Vincent’s House Clinic. While training, Dr. Yang joined mission trips to Ecuador and Peru providing medical services and coordinating with local providers to build enduring infrastructure for patient care. During his final year as Chief Resident, Dr. Yang was recognized for his leadership and surgical excellence with the John Sealy School of Medicine Teaching Excellence Award and Department of Ophthalmology Silver Scalpel Award.
Dr. Yang is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and Aerospace Medicine Association. He is conversational in Mandarin and Spanish and spends his spare time with his wife playing tennis, scuba diving, hiking, and traveling.
