Dr. Rebekah Swicegood was trained at both the University of Alabama School of Optometry, and the University of Houston College of Optometry, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is a licensed therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist. She enjoys serving patients of all ages and stages of life, and is especially passionate regarding the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease.
It is Dr. Swicegood’s desire that each of her patients would know that they are pricelessly valuable, important, listened to, highly respected, and that their questions and concerns matter. It is her desire to provide care of the highest level of excellence to each of her patients–the same level of care with which she would want her own family members to be treated.
One of Dr. Swicegood’s favorite activities is to serve on volunteer medical mission trips in developing countries, providing free care to patients who have limited access to eye care, and telling them about the Lord Jesus and His great love for them.
Prior to becoming an eye doctor, Dr. Swicegood’s first career was in music, as a piano, harp, and violin teacher, symphony harpist, and church pianist. She continues to enjoy music and is the principal harpist of the Texas Medical Center Orchestra and music/worship leader for Oasis Medical Fellowship.
Between the ages of 15-25, she memorized the New Testament in the Bible word-for-word with the help of her mom. Under the direction of drama instructor Wesley Brainard (a student of Marcel Marceau), she dramatized passages such as Matthew 1-15 and John 1-8, and shares these presentations in churches, conferences, schools, prisons, and orphanages.
In her free time, she enjoys activities such as hiking, bike riding, gardening, figure skating, writing poetry, Bible study activities, and spending time with friends and family.
